Last Post

Hereby my last post of this elective. Last monday I presentated my final space for the problem; improve daylight in underground spaces. My presentation was not good, but everything was clear to the students and tutors I think. I'm glad with the final result and I will hope that somebody would pick up my research or to do something with it.

Paper

Today I worked very hard to complete my paper. The preliminary document is published below. In the weekend I (maybe) improve it and prepare the final presentation comming monday.

Final Design

Today I created my final space. Because it was very hard for me to create some linked spaces, I made this space. It's based ont he isolines I get out of the calculations. The isolines of the most situation look almost the same, so I create a wall for a lot of situations. Extreme situations could be lighted with artificial light or with minimalize the lightpipe. This solution is the best one, in my opinion ofcourse, for this space. The sheets below told the story how I become to this final shape. Also this method could be used for every space.

I hope you enjoy this result, when you want to know more about it, leave a review please. Also when you don't understand the images, because the scaling of it, I will send it by email.

The way to the final model part 1

Today I did a lot of work to reach the final model. I modelling for the first time with more lightpipes. All my knowledge I get from the researches is the input for this model. The next model I introduce is with more spaces. The conclusion out of the results are the way to my final model.

Also I made some meeting with Paul de Ruiter for the final model in Rhino or Maya and with Hester Hellinga and Truus Hordijk to discus my model for the last time. Everyting looks great!
Today's progression is seen in the pictures below:

Last Results

Today I presentate my last made results. The following pictures are telling my story abouw how I wanna create a space that follows daylight. I think the pictures are told themselves.

Progression last week

On thursday I had a meeting with Axel, because I pass the monday's meeting. Int his message I leave all the 'comments' I get. Also we had today our final presentation about our subject. The critiques I get also described in this message. So there is a small overview what is 'wrong' and what to till week 9.

The following points are discussed:
  • Tell how the story is built up
  • Tell why you choose some parameters and their values
  • Design, for example, 3 perfect spaces then a good whole building
  • Try to fix the lightpipes to the function of the space
  • Begin with writing the rapport/paper
  • Design -> Test -> Reflect -> Improve -> render the model
  • Fix all the solo walls
  • Look also to extreme days (like 21 july)
  • Approach is good, but the lightpipes are chosen randomnly, why?
  • Make the final design not to absolut
  • How I am gonna use the spaces?
  • How create interaction between solo spaces
  • Look in practice or earlier published papers for examplex, am I Columbus?
  • Focus your project on a new part of the research

I think all these point are important to do something whit it

First results after improved approach

Yesterday I doesn't go to the weekly meeting with Axel and Rudi, because I doesn't have much to show. My progression was a little bit stocked in week 5. Thursday I had a meeting with Truus and I made a new approach to reach my goals. The whole plan is showed in the previous message.
Today, till midday, and yesterdag I do a lot to get my first results after the improved approach. All the reached data and results are shown in the sheets below.

The reached results are investigate my hypothesis about I expect to reach. The mount of illuminces is a bit lower, because DIALux can't calculate with glass in the modus I used for it. If you take 80% of the mount, it is the good mount for it.

Today I want to create my whole building and I try to do that, so I can presentate it to Axel on thursday.

New Approach

This week I made a new approach to reac my goals. Thursday I meet Truus and we discussed about my problem. My previos approach was to complex and not clever, so we made a new one and that looks hopeful!

To create my space I need some parameters. My idea is to create a space that is based on the daylight that is transported by lightpipes in my roof. I discover in DIALux that every height had it own range in the space. In the picture below you cab see this isolines. Every isoline had it own mount of luxes.

Isolines

Mount of isolines

Every space had two paramaters, namely the mount of luxes and the needed squared meters. This two parameters give me some isolines that suffice my demands. With that isoline I can create a space. In the sheet below I described the process.

Now I do research to get all the different isolines. I do that in DIALux, after that research I can create my whole building, so I look forward to it!
